Lessons involving technology (elementary level):

1. Using Google Earth to teach mapping skills: Younger students need to have a sense of where they live in comparison to the world around them. The lesson involved saving images from large scale to small scale (earth, continent, country, state, city, street), pasting them into a Power Point just so they could be printed out on one page more easily.

2. Teaching about the different organ systems of the human body: The University of Manchester website has lessons where you can show students, online the various parts of the human body. You are able to zoom in on some parts. read information, see what the parts do, and can be asked questions as an informal quiz. This would be more interactive and engaging than simply reading the information and looking at pictures.

3. Students would learn more about food chains: The website www.crickweb.co.uk has an interactive lesson on food chains. Students learn about producers, consumers, decomposers, and so on and also go to different habitats and try to place nature images in the correct food chain order.

My Favorite Websites:

www.scholastic.com
This site is very helpful when trying to find appropriately leveled books for readers. It also has interactive activities for students. One of my favorites is the Ellis Island virtual tour, because part of the fourth grade curriculum is studying immigration.

www.theteacherscorner.net
This site has useful bulletin board ideas, current news articles related to teaching, book lists, lesson plans, etc.

www.craiglist.org
While this is not an educational website, I really like it! A great tool for bargain hunters and sellers.

Here is a list of useful educational websites.

My Favorite Educational Interactive Game Online:

www.edheads.org
I use edheads.org during our study of the human body. Here students can do virtual surgeries and reinforce their learning about bones, muscles, etc. There are also real photos of surgeries for those with a strong stomach.
